Sowec Monthly Insights: Edition #3
Dear SOWEC Community,
Welcome to the July edition of our monthly newsletter! We are thrilled to share the latest developments and milestones that SOWEC has achieved this month. Here’s a look at what we’ve been up to:
ULAŞAN VE ERİŞEN TÜRKİYE 2053 R&D AND IDEAS COMPETITION
On July 18th, SOWEC secured 2nd place in the maritime category at the "Ulaşan ve Erişen Türkiye 2053" R&D and Ideas Competition. This prestigious competition was organized by the Republic of Turkey Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, along with the Directorate of the Transport, Maritime, and
Communication Research Center. We received our award from the Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, Mr. Abdulkadir Uraloğlu. This achievement is a
testament to our innovative approach and dedication to advancing maritime technology and renewable energy solutions.
MEETING WITH SAMSUNPORT
On July 19th, we had a productive meeting with Samsunport at their port in Samsun. During this meeting, we discussed how the energy consumed
by Samsunport, in addition to their existing solar power systems, could be supplemented with wave energy. We also explored potential collaborations
for the future.
NEW OFFICE IN ŞİŞHANE
We are excited to announce that we have moved to our new office at Tech Istanbul in Şişhane. We extend our heartfelt thanks to the Tech Istanbul
team for their support in making this transition smooth and successful. This new office will provide us with the space and resources needed to continue our innovative work and drive our mission forward.
PROTOTYPE PRODUCTION
We have successfully completed the buoy production phase of our prototype. This buoy is designed to capture the vertical movement of ocean waves and convert it into rotational motion. We are now beginning the production of the body part of our prototype, which will house the internal mechanisms for energy conversion and storage. This phase includes the integration of advanced materials and control systems to ensure high efficiency and durability in harsh marine environments. This marks a significant step towards realizing our full
scale wave energy conversion system.
GREEN TRANSFORMATION & CARBON TAX REGULATIONS
On July 9th, the Official Gazette of Turkey announced that a greenhouse gas tax will be imposed on cargo and passenger ships arriving at and departing from Turkish ports. The amount payable will be determined based on the current EU ETS price, and regulations regarding calculation, verification, etc., will be published. With ports now included in the carbon taxation scope alongside export businesses, the need for green transformation has become imperative.
At SOWEC, we are committed to contributing to the green transformation of ports using wave energy and continue to work tirelessly towards this goal.
LOOKING AHEAD
SOWEC will be attending a major global startup event. This event will provide a
platform to network with international startups, investors, and industry experts.
LOOKING AHEAD
As we chart our course for the future, SOWEC is committed to
accelerating our efforts in the renewable energy sector. Our immediate
goals include finalizing the production of our main prototype and
initiating comprehensive testing to ensure optimal performance and
reliability. We are also focusing on strengthening our partnerships with
industry leaders and regulatory bodies, to facilitate smoother market
entry and adoption of our technology.
Additionally, we aim to expand our research and development activities
to further innovate and enhance our wave energy solutions. By staying
at the forefront of technological advancements and market needs,
SOWEC is poised to lead the charge in transforming the energy
landscape with sustainable and scalable solutions.
Wave The Future with SOWEC!
